Project Overview

We worked with Cardfree from 2020-2021, we had the pleasure of working with Cardfree, a client that provides contactless solutions for ordering and payment through digital methods. We collaborated on five different products: a White-Label web experience for desktop and mobile, a Native App White-Label experience for clients, a management system called the Portal, and two other mobile experiences for contactless payments.

Our collaboration with Cardfree began just before the Covid shutdowns, which turned out to be an opportune time for the ordering app business. Our team worked on revamping the white-label solution for Cardfree's clients, starting from the home page to order history and account management. We paid close attention to all use cases to ensure that their system could scale in its current state.

Problem Statement

White Label Design System for 20+ Clients

Our team was involved in revamping Cardfree's white-label solution for their clients. We worked closely with the Cardfree team to ensure that the new design accounted for all use cases and that their system could scale effectively. Across their client portfolio.

Scalable system for a back office

The cardfree team had no way for their clients to import and manage their menus, create special offers and select ordering times for their apps.

Unified Experience across web, iOS & Android

The current solutions that Cardfree offered were very disjointed in look, feel and experience, our job was to create a system that worked for all platforms and all clients.

Solution

Creating a fluid shopping experience

We began by designing a core ordering flow that could flex to support a variety of restaurant formats—from QSRs to fine dining to multi-location franchises. Each mobile and web app version was structured around reusable UI components, allowing CardFree to apply different color schemes, logos, and imagery for each client with minimal development lift.

The user experience emphasized speed and clarity: intuitive category browsing, quick-add functionality, and streamlined checkout. On the backend, we considered API responses and data dependencies to ensure the frontend remained stable across diverse use cases. Every ordering experience—whether in-app or on web—was built to feel like it was natively designed for that brand.

Menu Import + Editing from Square

A key innovation was building a toolset to help new clients quickly import and manage their menus. We designed a workflow that allowed back office admins to connect their Square accounts and pull in structured menu data—including modifiers, categories, and pricing.

Our interface made it easy to review, edit, and publish this data, reducing menu setup time from days to hours. We also implemented guardrails to prevent broken logic (like orphaned modifiers or overlapping price tiers), which reduced support requests and created more accurate end-user experiences.

Designing a full suite of white label apps for Cardfree was as extensive as it has gotten for us over the last 2 years. We are highlighting one client (Torchy's) that uses’s their white label app but we designed for multiple of their clients & created an expansive experience for the different feature sets each client had.

Design Solution

One of the largest modules we designed for the White-Label app was the loyalty options provided by Cardfree. We aimed to unify the web experience with the white-label app experience and worked with the Cardfree team to ensure the experiences were as seamless as possible for users. We created multiple types of rewards, challenges, and accumulation of points, along with marketing designs for the in-app experience to encourage users to sign up for rewards. To achieve this, we took inspiration from some of our favorite apps that we use on a weekly basis.

Conclusion

Robust Order Managment Systems Created

By the end of our engagement, CardFree had a fully operational white label platform that could be deployed, skinned, and scaled in weeks—not months. Our design systems ensured visual consistency across all touchpoints, while our workflow designs reduced onboarding time and admin overhead.

This wasn’t just a set of apps—it was an ecosystem ready to power digital hospitality at scale. CardFree now offers its partners a sophisticated digital ordering and operations platform with beautiful UX baked into every layer.
